PhD/ Early Career Mentoring Workshop

BISA Colonial / Postcolonial / De-colonial Working Group

Queen Mary, University of London

18th September 2018

The CPD Working Group is committed to cultivating early career scholars’ professional development through advice, collaboration, engagement and networking. This mentoring workshop will provide a space for PhD and Early Career researchers working within the broad remit of (post)colonial/decolonial thought to help develop part of their research into a paper for academic publication. The workshop will be divided into three sessions. In the first two sessions, PhD/Early Career researchers will present their working papers (circulated in advance) for substantive comment and publication advice from senior scholars. The third session will be a roundtable discussion featuring journal and book series editors, offering PhD / Early Career researchers the opportunity to ask questions on publication strategies.

This workshop will provide a basis for the CPD mentoring network, designed to match up senior and junior colleagues in the field for career development. The PhD workshop will be held on the day before the CPD annual workshop – attendees of the former will be invited and expected to attend the latter.

To apply for the workshop, please submit a paper title and abstract, and basic information about institutional affiliation, year of study and details of any publications to date to Lisa Tilley at L.Tilley@qmul.ac.uk by 24th of June 2018. All successful PhD/ Early Career applicants will be awarded a contribution toward travel and accommodation costs. Places are limited.
